RAPE IS NOT A MENACE OF INDECENCY ALONE! - RENNYMAY UGBONG

I was beginning to get bored every time we went shopping with mum... At age 6,i wanted to pick my own wears,but mum always insisted on getting the exact same thing for my twin and I. She preached decency and every time picked long dresses over short ones which i prayed for secretly.... (Don't blame me,I've got a soft spot for not too short dresses)....her excuse would always be,they would rape u if u don't cover your legs! So we wore long dresses.😦😦
Then one day,at age 10 we found two dead bodies opposite our streets of girls who had been raped the pervious day on their way to empty refuse.... They wore long dresses,covered their bodies and were stabbed in the chest!😣😡
Two weeks later Abee,went to dump refuse and was raped on her way back...i remember that evening clearly when she came back home with tears streaming from her eyes whilst blood streamed from her thighs.... We were sent to our rooms and she was rushed to the hospital. She had a baby 9months later and has not recovered from that incident.😓😪

Did my notion change? 😒
That was only the beginning, i was to see more on why indecent dressing was not the root cause of rape.....and even if it was! What right does a man have over another's body? I wear a bumshot and you want to taste my honey pot,shameless.... And then u waylay me and rape me and then what next? What do u enjoy from being forceful? What joy do u derive in tearing off my wears just to see what you've been seeing nearly every other day?😕😏

4weeks after resumption in high school,a student was yet to resume....we asked questions and when answers finally came we were grieved.... She was raped and was having problems recovering!. When she finally resumed she was never herself and was removed the very next term! At that time she was 12!😓

I watched aunty Zi cry over a 5year old colleague's daughter who was raped in her father's office by a fellow colleague.😪

I watched Ntiense cry over her little niece barely 6months old who's system was filled with sperm over sucking what should have been her uncle's thingy.....he made her suck his thingy each time she cried in her mum's absence and even if he experienced the "cum" phase was not polite enough to take it off the little girl's mouth. She died the following week and he's still alive!😪😔

I have watched in the news and read blogs of rape victims ranging btwn the ages of 4-10,15,16,17.......................molested and victimized by relatives,fathers,uncles,friends,....oh the list is endless.....!
The aftermath is frightening, tormenting, disheartening, pitiful......... It is all round painful,psychologically,emotionally and physically.....those wounds never heal !!!
I have met victims,and their tale is sorry to tell...😫😔

My fellow Nigerians,the enemy is amongst us,described like what the bible calls 'wolf in sheep clothing'... The has to be a stop to this dehumanizing challenge. It could be your sister, mother,wife,friend tomorrow....
